Turnkey Network Solutions | What Is a Network?

An Overview of Our Turnkey Network Solutions In 2023

Our company’s name has become nearly synonymous with “turnkey network solutions” over the decades we have been in business. When the company was founded in 1986, we recognised how important cabling and network connectivity would become to the South African business landscape. Our founders (Gerald Lea and Steve Pinkney) knew that the world would become more connected as time went on and their foresight has continued to pay off.

We always strive to be on the technological frontier to introduce and standardise new networking technologies in South Africa (while also maintaining our competence in older, but still widely used, networking and cabling protocols). In the article below, we will take a look at the turnkey network solutions provided by our company.

What Is a Network?

A network is an interconnected series of cables, devices, and other peripherals that allows data to be transmitted between the devices in question (computers, for example). Simply attaching one end of a cable to a computer and the other end of the cable to another computer won’t create a network. The setup will only become a true network when data transmission becomes possible, which means that both the devices (between which the data is to be transmitted) and the transmission method (wired or wireless) need to be compatible and primed to allow the process to continue uninterrupted.

We can help you install any of these network types and we can even help you integrate them for a solution that is tailored to the unique requirements of your business.

A basic example of a network is a Local Area Network (LAN). In this network type, two or more computers are connected locally (in the same space) via a series of specialised cables and connectors. The network is only accessible by someone using one of the devices connected to it and makes it easier (and safer) to share files with others on the network.

A more advanced example of a network would be the internet. The internet consists of millions of connected devices (and even smaller network) that can be accessed to retrieve or store information. Since this kind of network is so massive and is accessible by anyone with an internet-capable device (and not just restricted to a handful of people in a small office space), it is not as safe as a local network. Its sheer scale and accessibility also make it an invaluable tool in the modern business world.

The Turnkey Network Solutions Offered By CCI

A network encompasses much more than just the cables and devices that make up the basic infrastructure. The purpose and functionality of a network are equally important, which is why the list below will include both networking and cabling solutions.

The main network solutions offered by us are the following:

  • There are two types of local area networks: peer-to-peer and client-server. The former refers to the “traditional” LAN setup of computers connecting to each other via cables, while the latter refers to a network in which all the connected computers connect directly to a server, which then makes it possible for the computers to connect with each other.

  • Wired Networks. These networks include both traditional copper cables (including Ethernet) and fiber but can also be integrated with wireless networks.

  • Wireless These network types forego traditional cabling in favour of a wireless setup. Installation protocols such as Aruba wireless make the transition from wired to wireless painless and seamless.

  • Data Centers and Servers. These kinds of setups will serve as the literal brains of your business. Not only do they facilitate networking on a local scale, but also on a national and international scale for the purposes of data collection and management (a vital function in the 2023 business landscape).
